On Monday, he took a tour of the spectacular Mehrangarh Fort and surveyed the restoration work inside, enjoyed the view of the renovated Ranisar Lake and the 'Blue City' below and visited the nearby Nagaur Fort.

Gaj Singh is known to have a good idea of the tourism potential of the state and is considered as the most successful in exploiting it. He introduced an audio guide (a walkman-like device) that allows tourists to take a tour of the Mehrangarh Fort at their own pace.

Foreigners are especially besotted as it saves them from tourists guides, who, they complain, quote arbitrary rates.
