President to visit J&K next month

May 25, 2003 20:26 IST

President A P J Abdul Kalam will be on a three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir next month.

Among other things, he may address a convocation at the Jammu University, meet some individuals in Srinagar and visit a school, sources said.

This will be Kalam's first visit to the state after becoming President.

Former President K R Narayanan had visited J&K in 1997.

Kalam will also present the President's Colour to the Jammu and Kashmir Police for their work in uprooting terrorism.

The President is also expected to visit Leh during his stay.

Last month Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee visited the state and announced fresh peace initiative towards Pakistan.
