Bereaved Assam minister calls for peace

May 15, 2003 20:36 IST

Assam Veterinary Minister G C Langthasa on Thursday urged people of all ethnic communities to respond to the need for peaceful co-existence in North Cachar Hills district.

In a faxed statement from Haflong, Langthasa, whose son was killed by suspected Hmar militants on Monday, said he has directed the administration to flush out militants from the district and restore law and order.

Langthasa condemned the ruthless killing of innocent people and appealed to those fomenting trouble to shun the path of violence.

"It is the duty of every individual to lend his cooperation to restore peace in N C Hills as it affects not only his daily life but also the future of his children," he added.
