Bid to storm BSF camp in Pulwama

May 01, 2003 21:25 IST

In the fourth strike in a week, a suicide squad of militants on Thursday night made an abortive bid to storm a BSF camp in Pulwama town of Jammu and Kashmir triggering an encounter, which left one ultra dead, BSF sources in Srinagar said.

Lobbing grenades and firing indiscriminately, three militants in police uniforms tried to force their way through the main gate of the camp of the BSF's 120th Battalion.

The security personnel hit back killing one militant on the spot, while two escaped under the cover of darkness.

Security personnel have launched an operation to trace the two militants who are suspected to have taken shelter in a nearby cluster of government offices.
