Priyanka meets Amethi Congress block presidents

Tara Shankar Sahay in New Delhi | June 18, 2003 23:13 IST

Priyanka Gandhi-Vadra, daughter of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday met 16 party block presidents of Amethi and received their feedback on the task she had assigned to them.

During her visit to Amethi some months ago, Priyanka had asked them to go to every village in their respective block and find out the problems of the people.

Priyanka needed the feedback to help chalk out an electoral strategy for her mother.

The initial venue of the meeting at 34, Rakabganj Road bungalow of Captain Satish Sharma, Congress MP from Rae Bareily, was changed after Priyanka decided to avoid the gathered mediapersons. Sharma is a confidante of the Nehru-Gandhi family.

The meeting was then shifted to the Congress chief's office at 10 Janpath, which is out of bounds for journalists.

Sources said Priyanka urged the block presidents to push themselves harder for the party's success in the upcoming polls.
