Pre-monsoon showers in several parts of Andhra Pradesh for the second consecutive day on Tuesday brought down temperatures significantly, even as the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre said the south-west monsoon was likely to advance into the state by the week-end.

Temperature in Hyderabad dipped to 39 degrees Celsius on Tuesday a huge relief from the sweltering heat of the past around 25 days. 

State relief commissioner's office, however, reported 11 more heat wave deaths in the state since Monday evening, taking the toll since May 16 to 1,412.

All the fresh deaths occurred in Khammam district, where moderate heat wave conditions continue.

According to the Meteorological Centre, there is cloud formation in all the three regions of the state leading to a fall in day temperatures.

In Vijayawada in southern Andhra coast, the maximum temperature dropped to 43.4 degree Celsius from the season's peak of 49 degrees Celsius recorded on May 31.

Isolated rains occurred over coastal Andhra and Telangana, while mainly dry weather prevailed over Rayalaseema.

Guntur and Nuzvid recorded 1 cm rainfall each since Monday night. The forecast for the next 48 hours is isolated rain/ thunder-showers all over the state.

"The heat wave conditions have abated in large parts of the state. However, moderate heat wave conditions are likely to continue at a few isolated places in Telangana and coastal Andhra for a day or two," Hyderabad Meteorological Centre director C V V Bhadram told rediff.com.

"The south-west monsoon has advanced into some parts of coastal Karnataka and south interior Karnataka on Tuesday. The monsoon may cross into Andhra Pradesh by the week-end," Bhadram added.
