Two UP gangsters killed in encounter with Mumbai police

June 05, 2003 04:23 IST

Two gangsters of Uttar Pradesh, wanted in 15 cases of murder, were shot dead by the police in an encounter on Wednesday night near a cinema hall in suburban Juhu, police sources said.

On a tip-off that Anurag and Rupesh, members of Munna Bajrangi gang, were to come Chandan cinema, the police laid a trap and asked the duo to surrender.

The gangsters, however, fired on the police drawing retaliation in which both were killed, the sources said.

Anurag Singh and Rupesh Singh were allegedly involved in the murder of some senior police officers, BJP leaders and a police constable in Uttar Pradesh, the sources said.

A team of UP police had recently come to Mumbai in search of the duo, but went back empty handed.
