Postgraduate diploma course in bioinformatics

The Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology, Bangalore, announces admissions for its third batch, 2004-2005.

The IBAB has been set up by the Karnataka government in association with ICICI Bank. According to an advertisement issued by the Institute, 'With the involvement of leading academic institutes and industry, IBAB aims to attain high standards in bioinformatics and applied biotechnology, education and research. The curriculum at IBAB is contemporary and aims to create a new breed of bioinformaticians skilled in a variety of disciplines.'

The postgraduate diploma course at IBAB 'intends to provide competence in computational biology/bioinformatics
through lectures and practical training in the areas of basic biology, computer science, statistics and bioinformatics, to
graduates from diverse backgrounds. The course is structured into a trimester system, the first two semesters being devoted to in-house training and a fulltime project to be executed in the third semester, either in-house or at other academic/corporate institutions.'

Eligibility: A recognised bachelor's or master's degree in any branch of science or engineering with minimum 55% marks. Students awaiting their results can also apply, provided their average percentage of previous semesters/years is at least 55%.

Duration of course: 16 months (3 semesters), starting from January 7, 2004.

Scholarships: A few scholarships to partially cover the tuition fees are available for deserving candidates.

Selection Process: Objective-type written tests will be held at Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai on Sunday, September 14, 2003. Short-listed candidates will be called for an interview at Bangalore.

Application forms: The application forms are available between 9 am and 6 pm, Monday to Saturday, at IBAB, Bangalore, in person or by post on submission of DD. Alternatively, pdf forms can be downloaded from www.ibab.ac.in, duly filled and mailed to IBAB. You can apply online by going to www.ibab.ac.in DD must
accompany the completed application form for pdf or online cases.

Cost of application forms: Rs 750 through DD in favour of 'Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology' payable at Bangalore.

Last date for issuing the application forms: August 18, 2003
Last date for submitting filled application forms: August 21, 2003

External Students Registration Programme, Academic Year 2003-2004

The External Section at the University of Pune invites applications for registration for BA, BCom, MA, MCom, LLM and MA/MSc (Mathematics) courses.

Application forms and other information are available at www.mkcl.info/PU

Students can fill in the application form on-line. While filling the form, students should keep ready with them their
mark statements of the last examination appeared. Those who have registered earlier should keep their registration cards ready.

These documents are required for filling in the application form.

1. Documents as listed on the web site.
2. DD in the name of MKCL, payable at Pune
3. Two passport size photographs of the applicant.
These documents should be sent in an A-4 size envelope to Post Box No 3, Pune 411016.

The dates for acceptance of application forms are as follows:

July 1 to August 15, 2003 (without late fee)
August 16 to August 31, 2003 (with late fee)

No printed forms for registration or examination of external students will henceforth be available at the University. Old printed forms will not be considered valid. All external students will have to fill in their applications only on the web site, www.mkcl.info/PU
