July 05, 2003 16:17 IST

Narottam Singh Dhillon, a nephew of former Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, has been charged with having links with the Inter-Services Intelligence, terrorists in Pakistan and Kashmir and the drug mafia, according to a senior police official.

His alleged links came to light during interrogation of two drug smugglers, who were arrested by the Amritsar police four days back for carrying 10 kg opium, Superintendent of Police, Muktsar, Surinder Pal Singh said on Saturday.

One of them confessed that Dhillon was their financier, the official said, adding the smugglers had links with J&K and Pakistan-based terrorists through the ISI.

Dhillon, who is in police custody for allegedly financing drug mafia in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan, is being interrogated on the basis of the information given by the two smugglers, Singh said.

The former chief minister and his family members are under vigilance scanner in a disproportionate assets case.
