Almost all sitting Congress MLAs renominated for HP poll

January 31, 2003 03:47 IST

All but three its 26 sitting MLAs were renominated as the Congress on Thursday night finalised its candidates for all the 68 seats for February's assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh.

The list of candidates was finalised at a marathon meeting of the party's central election committee in Delhi presided by Congress president Sonia Gandhi, AICC general secretary in charge of the state Mohsina Kidwai said.

A decision on nominees for three seats -- Banikhet, Ghumarvi and Kagauli -- would be taken later, she said.

The list of Congress candidates and their constituencies is expected to be released on Friday.

The party's screening committee had on Wednesday recommended names of 46 candidates, including the sitting MLAs.

For the remaining 22 seats, the committee had suggested a panel of three names.
