Railway station blown up in Jharkhand

February 26, 2003 22:25 IST

Suspected extremists on Wednesday blasted the Koshiyara railway station in Jharkhand's Palamau district and removed some fish plates nearby disrupting train traffic for over five hours, a senior police official said in Daltonganj.

Superintendent of Police Anil Palta told reporters that suspected extremists took the station manager and another staff member hostage before exploding two bombs to blow up the railway station, which had been functioning from a tent after being blown up by the Peoples War group of Naxalites in January.

The attackers looted blankets and some cash before releasing the two men. There was no report of any casualty.
