Kuki militants free BSNL official

February 24, 2003 20:30 IST

Kuki Liberation Army militants have freed the Deputy General Manager of the Bharat Sanchar Nagam Limited (Manipur branch), J Lumkim, in Thoubal district, official sources said on Monday.

Lumkim, abducted on February 18, was released in a jungle near Molnom area on Sunday.

The sources, however, refused to divulge whether any ransom was paid to the KLA, which had demanded Rs30 lakh for Lumkim's release.

Various social organisations, including the United Committee Manipur, had repeatedly appealed to the abductors to free Lumkim.
