Two killed, eight injured in Assam explosion

Two persons were killed and eight injured when a bomb exploded in Makum town of violence-hit Tinsukia district in Assam on Monday evening.

The police said the bomb was kept in a bag near a hardware shop.

One of the injured succumbed on way to hospital, sources said. Senior police and civil officials rushed to the scene and investigations were on.

The identity of the dead are yet to be ascertained, sources said.

Tinsukia district was the worst affected in the recent anti-Bihari violence accounting for 29 of the 56 deaths with curfew imposed in four towns including Makum.

Curfew in Makum was lifted only last week.
