Road traffic between Mumbai and Pune was disrupted on Thursday morning for nearly five hours when villagers from Belapur staged a blockade demanding arrest of a truck driver, who allegedly raped a six-year-old girl on Wednesday night.

Traffic had come to a complete halt between Belapur and Pune between 0600 and 1100 IST, a senior police officer said.

The demonstrators later lifted the blockade following an assurance from senior officials that an inquiry into the incident would be conducted.
