The opposition in Rajya Sabha on Thursday announced a boycott of the house for the remaining period of the current session on the issue of government's refusal to part with a CVC report to the Parliament's Public Accounts Committee.

The decision was conveyed by opposition leaders to Rajya Sabha chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat in a letter in which they also said, "You unfortunately in your ruling articulated what the government could have said in their favour (on the PAC issue)."

In the lengthy letter, they maintained they do not want to question his ruling or show disrespect to him but picked a number of holes in the ruling on Wednesday in which Shekhawat had said the CVC report did not cover Kargil purchases.

"Our fight is against the insensitive attitude of the government. Therefore, we will continue our non-cooperation with the government by not participating in the proceeding of the house in the remaining period of the current session.

"However, since we have committed ourselves to the passage of the Constitution Amendment Bill, we will do so when these bills are debated on August 19," they said.

The signatories to the letter are Manmohan Singh, Pranab Mukherji, Manoj Bhattacharjee, H K Javare Gowda, Nilotpal Basu, Ramdeo Bhandari, R Kharsingh and Jaya Singh.
