In what could be clinching evidence in the Maulana Azad Medical College gang rape case, a DNA test has proved that the semen sample recovered from the victim's sanitary pad matched that of prime accused Rahul.

Analysis done on the samples was sufficient to conclude that the biological fluid (semen) present on the sanitary pad of the victim was that of Rahul, the Hyderabad-based Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics said in its report submitted to a court here.

"DNA fingerprint of the sanitary pad of the victim is a mixed profile, which is of the victim and that of the accused, Rahul alias Budh Prakash," it said adding both were 'comparable'.

Therefore, Rahul 'cannot be excluded' from being responsible for the semen present on the victim's sanitary pad, the report said.

Three samples -- Rahul's blood along with the victim's vaginal smear and sanitary pad -- were subjected to DNA isolation test to prepare the profiles, the report said.

DNA analysis is the most authentic and advanced scientific test as the genetic blueprint is unique to every individual. As the vaginal smear slide did not yield any DNA, profiles were prepared from the DNA samples of the other two, the report added.

A prosecution witness, Senior Scientific Officer of Forensic Sciences Laboratory, Malviya Nagar, A K Shrivastava, had told a Delhi court that he found blood and semen stains on
the clothes allegedly worn by the accused and the victim on the day of the incident.

A fourth-year student of Maulana Azad Medical College was allegedly raped by three persons at knifepoint on the terrace of the Khooni Darwaza monument on the busy Bahadurshah Zafar Marg in Delhi on November 15 last.
