Laloo to use lathi to counter communalism

Anand Mohan Sahay in Patna | April 15, 2003 18:55 IST

Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Laloo Prasad Yadav is nowadays busy trying to spread the usefulness of lathis in taking on the United States and 'communal forces' like the Bharatiya Janata Party.

In fact, lathis have become a passion with RJD workers, who want to prove their loyalty to Yadav before a proposed rally at the Gandhi Maidan in Patna on April 30.

Last week, the RJD held a camp to educate party workers about the usefulness of lathis.

The camp was the brainchild of RJD spokesperson Bhim Singh, a confidant of Yadav.

Among those present were Chief Minister Rabri Devi and her younger brother Subhas Yadav, an RJD legislator.

During a three-day party conclave in West Champaran district in March, Yadav had said, "Lathi ko tel pila kar sampradaikta ka ant hum karenge [We will use the lathi to end the scourge of communalism]"
