Delhi police get transit
remand of R K Sharma

Onkar Singh in New Delhi

The Delhi police on Saturday got the transit remand of R K Sharma, prime suspect in the murder of Indian Express journalist Shivani Bhatnagar.

They have got permission from Chief Judicial Magistrate Sarita Gupta to produce Sharma before a court in Delhi.

The 50-year-old IPS officer surrendered on Friday afternoon before CJM Sarita Gupta in Ambala after eluding the police since August 3 when another suspect in the case was arrested.

Sharma is likely to be produced in the Kakardooma courts in Delhi along with an application for his custody before 1700 hours IST. The court will be closed on Sunday.

However, his lawyers have sought a medical examination before Sharma is transferred to Delhi. The examination is to be conducted in a civil hospital in Ambala.
