Really nice one. All the brave people deserve a pat on their backs for saving so many lives. One sincerely prays organizations like VHP, etc. develop some sense and humane nature as shown by these brave hearts. Anuj Agrawal

I feel sad that you could not even publish the picture of Shri.Suresh Yadav, the NSG guard who got killed while protecting Akshardham. His act is no way less than the fire fighters that were trying to help at WTO tower at New York. I sincerely wish that Mr.Yadav should be declared as national hero. Umesh Reddy

I was really pleased to see your article. Living in the US, I see the respect people here give to the police officers. It is about time we Indians started doing it. I would love to see a profile of some of the people who were killed in the attack. These were real people- with wives daughters, families etc. and not just a number to throw around. I think that kind of reporting (as the NY Times portraits on those killed in 9/11) would sensitize people to recognize the grave nature of the crime. Rahul

Dear Silent Scribes, Good hearts are strong in crisis. Good hearts well-lived. We mourn their loss, especially when winds of war raced round the earth. These are those of we who halt the madness and the twisted minds of ignorance. Thank you for giving them a voice and face, amid the poker games of politics that we must chronically endure today. Our own sense of courage, strength and integrity may grow in their important recognition amid these fear filled days. Rigzin Tsomo
Date: Friday, September 27, 2002 12:18 PM Subject: Not all gas
I have been following the various reports on the NSG operation in the temple. I have one observation. All said and done capturing the terrorists live has much more value than kiiling them and left with no clues for investigation.Assuming this is correct, lets say the NSC commondos , after getttign in to the complex and zeroing down on the terrorists hide out does the following instead of shooting at them. They carry with them some special chemical gases which can make a person unconsious immidiately but its effect is only within a very small area where it is spread. The commandos can use gas masks for their own protection Then they fire a few shots with chemical gases at the exact or very close spot to the place where the terrorists are hidden and make them unconscious .Capture them in that position and use them later for further investigations. I am not sure whether such an alternative was thought of at all and if not what is wrong in using this option. If you think this deserves some clarifications from govt. please make this public by putting it on your site. Minesh Desai

Very good article. Thanks for putting those thoughts on paper. It really talks about the sacrifices made. It talks about how every little thing matters. I would suggest you have similar article printed in the national and local newspapers and also in foreign media. That way even foreigners will be able to take notice of losses India is encurring because of terrorism. Good work. These kinds of articles brings me back to rediff website frequently. Prashant

It is a tragedy that in a country where love is preached to end the sorrows of mankind to an extent is been injured in regular intervals . Trust us we aren't people sitting in our homes watching all this in grief and lamenting over what is happening as if time is coming all over again and again and telling us it is time that we stop preaching and start acting. such sort of sincere efforts by common people is what is tying us down and it is time that each one of us take this as an inspiration and not let hatred take over love as it is that what enemies of love want to happen. Hats off to all the heroes who battled it out and who laid down their life. The praising should not end with showing of sympathies. The families of Suresh Yadav and Arjun Singh should be suitable compensated from the Public also. Media should highlight this fact. Shreevatsa

Unfortunately, for the likes of Mr. Mahajan, there is only one hero for this country, the poor superrich Mr. Sachin Tendulkar who very badly needs a duty waiver for his Ferrari. Mr. Mahajan should also recommend building an exclusive 300 km. expressway (ala mumbai-pune expressway--8 lane) for Mr. Tendulkar to enjoy his super speed machine. nobody else should be allowed to use this expressway except Mr. Tendulkar and may be Mr. Mahajan! Wonderful report ! Its about time media highlights the 'unsung heroes' in any such incidents rather than headlining 'politicians so and so condemns the attack'. And my tributes to all the heroes who kept the crisis to as low as possible, and a silent prayer for all the victims. Janak

An excellent article and an apt salute to these unsung heroes. To act in a manner they did, in the circumstances where one could have forgiven a person for running for his life, is hugely commendable. No words would be enough to praise them. I am happy to see senses finally coming back into the men of Gujrat, who shamlessley had lost it after the Godhra massacre. In this time, Hindus or Muslims, we all need to stand up united and defend our people and land. Deepak

Commando Suresh Chandra gave his today for our tomorrow, while our SOBs called politicians are destroying our tomorrow for their today. How it would have been if everyone imbibed the spirit of sacrifice seen in these brave men. A spirit that reminds me the spirit of sacrifice of our freedom fighters. Logically speaking I believe we lost Comm. Suresh because of follies our politicians than terrorists. May his sacrifice not go in vain and his soul rest in peace. Pratap Reddy
