Invade Pakistan to destroy
its terror network: VHP

Josy Joseph in Ahmedabad

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Wednesday urged the Indian government to invade Pakistan and destroy its terror network.

On the eve of a VHP-sponsored nationwide bandh, Dr Pravin Togadiya, VHP's international general secretary, said that a failure to declare war on Pakistan would put to public ridicule claims by Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani that any aggression against the country would be crushed with a heavy hand.

"The country is at the cross-roads -- either the ruling class must gather courage to face the jihadi challenge or the Hindu samaj itself will find a permanent solution to this menace," he said.

Calling on all Hindus to make Thursday's bandh a success, Togadia said: "The bandh would be peaceful...but then you never know. I am not an astrologer."

He said the Indian state has failed for 12 years to respond to terrorism in an effective way. "I think the Hindu society has become restless all over the country now. Hindu masses are losing patience because jehad has moved on from railway stations to reach our temples," Togadiya said.

Accusing the secularists and the Indian state of having become allies of jehadi elements, he said: "But for the secularist media and our cowardly political leaders, the jihadi forces would not have had dared to attack Akshardham."

He said the attack on Akshardham and the Godhra violence were latest in the millennia-long cultural struggle "between the forces of construction and destruction, between those who built the Bamyan Buddhas, the aeroplane and the World Trade Center and those who wrought destruction on them or through them."
