Only essential services will be excluded
from bandh: Shiv Sena

Our Correspondent in Mumbai

The Shiv Sena has called for nationwide bandh (strike) from midnight Wednesday to protest against the terrorist attack on the Akshardham temple in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

"The bandh will be imposed on all, except essential services," senior Sena leader Subhash Desai told rediff.com in Mumbai.

"Only the fire brigade, milk vans, newspaper vendors and chemists will be allowed to maintain their operations," Desai clarified.

"Trains and cars are not essential services," he said when asked about the fate of millions of Mumbaiites who use local trains to commute to their work places.

On Wednesday, Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray called an emergency meeting of various affiliated outfits to chalk out plans for enforcing the bandh.

The Maharashtra government is expected to issue a statement regarding the bandh later in the day.
