Jaya indisposed, will not attend CRA meet

N Sathiya Moorthy in Chennai

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa will not be attending the emergency meeting of the Cauvery River Authority in New Delhi on Sunday evening citing.

In a letter to Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who is also the chairman of the Authority, Jayalalithaa cited health reasons for her decision.

State Finance Minister C Ponnaiyan will be attending the meeting on her behalf. He will be accompanied by state Chief Secretary V Sugavaneswar and PWD Secretary Kuttralingam both of who had participated in the meeting of the Cauvery Monitoring Committee held in the capital on Saturday.

In a statement in Chennai, the state government pointed out that the CRA meeting has been called with less than 24 hours' notice, which made it difficult even for PWD Minister O Panneerselvam to represent the state as he was away in his native Theni district.
