Nagappa's supporters go on rampage
in Chamarajanagar

Sadananda R in Chamarajanagar

Frustrated over the delay in getting their leader released from the hold of Veerappan, H Nagappa's supporters on Thursday attacked the district commissioner's office in Chamarajanagar.

They were agitating before the district commissioner's office for the last ten days.

The attack took place at around 1400 IST when Chamarajanagar superintendent of police arrived.

The protestors argued with the SP and shouted slogans against the police and government for their failure to get Nagappa released.

While the SP was trying to pacify the angry protestors, some of them ran inside the building and attacked the staff.

The mob ransacked the office, and broke furniture and computers, forcing the staff to run away.

Soon the police swung into action and resorted to lathi-charge. The mob was prevented from entering the chamber of the district commissioner.

Around fifty people were arrested. Four agitators were injured and they were admitted to the district government hospital. Two policemen were also hurt.

The district administration clamped Section 144 around the district commissioner's building, but the supporters said they would resume their protest from Friday.
