Two ULFA terrorists killed near
CM's house in Guwahati

Two terrorists of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom were shot dead in a three-hour encounter with the police near the private residence of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi in the Beltola Survey area of Guwahati on Wednesday.

No one in Gogoi's residence was hurt in the encounter. The chief minister spends most of his time in his official residence in Khanapara.

Superintendent of Police P C Neog said a police team took positions in a contractor's house on information that the ultras were coming there to collect extortion money.

However, when the ultras saw the policemen they opened fire and tried to escape in a cycle-rickshaw.

The securitymen gave them a chase and managed to shoot one of them near a bylane that leads to the CM's house.

The second forced his way into a nearby house after shooting its owner Aftabuddin Ahmed in the legs.

After a short exchange of fire, the cops stormed the house and killed the terrorist. A police commando Sadaq Ali was injured in the operation.
