Air marshal in political
row gets PVSM

Air Marshal Manjit Singh Sekhon, who had to make an unceremonious exit from the IAF for seeking political help to further his career, was on Tuesday decorated with the Param Vishist Seva Medal (PVSM) for 'distinguished service of the most exceptional order'.

Sekhon, who had to leave service prematurely six months earlier than his date of superannuation, was among 12 senior serving and retired officers to be conferred the medal by President A P J Abdul Kalam at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The IAF had taken a serious view of Sekhon writing a letter to then Punjab chief minister Prakash Singh Badal to use his good offices in securing the plum assignment of heading the Western Air Command.
