Veerappan sends fourth cassette

Veerappan, who abducted former Karnataka minister H Nagappa sixty-two days ago, has sent a fourth cassette with a villager from M M Hills.

The arrival of the cassette is an important development in the wake of Kolathur Mani, Veerappan's preferred mediator in the case, securing bail in one of the five cases registered against him.

The villager said an unknown person had handed him the cassette saying it was from the brigand. He was asked to hand over the cassette to Nagappa's family.

The Special Task Force got the cassette when it intercepted the anxious looking villager.

The cassette, the contents of which are not known, is with Home Minister Mallikarjuna Kharge in Bangalore.

In the third cassette, Veerappan had asked for Mani as emissary to negotiate the release of Nagappa. The brigand had also called for Ponnachi Mahadevaswamy, who was appointed the government's emissary.

The government had expressed its inability to send Mani, as he was under judicial custody.
