Nagappa abduction: Kolathur Mani produced in court

Sadananda R in Chamarajanagar

Tamil activist Kolathur Mani, whom Veerappan wants as emissary, was produced before the Kollegal junior court on Monday on charges of possessing explosives.

Mani was brought to Mysore from Bellary jail, where he is held on charges of providing arms and ammunition to the forest brigand.

He has also been charged with masterminding the abduction of Kannada matinee idol Dr Rajakumar, along with Veerappan.

Mani was produced in the court amid tight security. But the court failed to conduct the hearing as the advocates were on strike and postponed the hearing to November 4.

Mani was brought to Mysore from Bellary on Sunday. He will be produced before the Karnataka high court on Tuesday, which will hear his bail application in the case charging him with providing Veerappan with arms and ammunition.

It is said that the state government has adopted a soft stand and filed mild objections, which is expected to facilitate Mani's release.

Mani is facing charges in five cases.
