NSG commando injured in Akshardham still 'critical'

The condition of National Security Guards commando Surjan Singh Bhandari, who was injured in the Akshardham operation, remains 'unchanged and very critical' even after four operations by neurosurgeons, hospital sources in Ahmedabad said on Friday.

Surjan Singh had shown some improvement in the initial days of treatment. He recently underwent two more operations, including one on Wednesday by a Mumbai-based neurosurgeon. But he did not show any major improvement. So another expert from the Army Medical Corps in Pune was flown in on Thursday, the sources said.

The commando was admitted to the neurosurgery department of the civil hospital in Ahmedabad on September 25 after he had sustained bullet injuries during the operation to clear the temple premises of terrorists.

Another NSG commando, Subedar Suresh Chandra Yadav, and two commandos of the Gujarat State Reserve Police died in the operation.
