NSG gets 25 per cent raise in emoluments: Advani

Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani on Wednesday announced a 25 per cent increase in emoluments for the National Security Guards, hailing them as an elite counter-terrorism force.

Addressing the officers and troops of the NSG, popularly known as 'Black Cat Commandos', on the 18th Raising Day of the force in New Delhi, he said all lacunae in terms of the weaponry or manpower will be eliminated.

Advani made the announcement after NSG Director General R S Mooshahary said that the force had a 20 per cent deficiency in its manpower.

Advani also hoped the Urban Development Ministry would consider the NSG's request for land near the Delhi airport to shift its existing training centre in Manesar, Haryana.

He also handed over two cheques --- Rs 1 million from the Gujarat government and Rs 300,000 from the Akshardham temple committee --- to the wife of NSG commando Subedar Suresh Chand, who was killed in the operation to flush out terrorists from the temple on September 24.

Earlier, the same commandos who were involved in the operation at Akshardham carried out a mock drill of the operation.

The 'Black Cats' also conducted an anti-hijack operation, displaying how hostages aboard a hijacked plane were freed and terrorists neutralised.
