The All Manipur Working Journalist Union has asked scribes in the state not to respond to any summons from militant outfits.
The union has also appealed to underground organisations to contact it in case of any complaints against the media.
The decision came on Saturday following summons to two senior journalists -- Brojendra Ningomba, Editor of The Matangi Yakairol and Khogendra Khomdram, Editor of the Manipuri edition of The Sangai Express, by the Kangleipak Communist Party and the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Issac-Muivah).
Apparently, the two underground outfits were not pleased with some reports published in these two newspapers.
The United Kuki Liberation Front had abducted and released two journalists, including Iboyaima Laithangbam of The Sentinel, last week.
Frequent calls by insurgents are detrimental to the normal functioning and independence of media in the state, the AMWJU said in a statement.
