Rajni, colleagues to meet PM

Tamil film superstar Rajnikant on Monday said that he would lead a delegation of film personalities to meet Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and request him to prevail upon Karnataka to implement the Supreme Court order and release water daily to Tamil Nadu.

He told reporters in Chennai after submitting a petition to Governor P S Ramamohan Rao that he was also trying to contact some of his friends from the Kannada film world to accompany him to the capital.

He said the trip would only be a temporary solution to the vexed issue, and a permanent solution lay in linking the Ganges with the Cauvery. "The Centre should implement the scheme, unmindful of the cost. We will raise the funds." He added people would voluntarily contribute for such a project.

"It will be a golden era for India if the project is implemented," he said.

He said that if there are problems in implementing the Ganga-Cauvery link project, a smaller one linking the South Indian rivers should be undertaken. "Let the Centre announce that project. I am willing to personally offer Rs 10 million towards the project," he said.
