Toll in Assam grenade blasts rises to five

The death toll in the attacks on Durga Puja pandals by militants in Assam on Monday rose to five with one more person succumbing to injuries.

Nineteen people were injured, some of them seriously, as the militants threw grenades at two puja pandals in Bongaigaon town and nearby Satipur, official sources said.

While ten of the injured were admitted to a local hospital, four were taken to the Guwahati Medical College hospital, the sources said.

Those who died in Bongaigaon were Kalyanjit Bisnot (30), Subhash Saha (34) and Bina Das (30), while the deceased in Satipur was Ganesh Chandra Barman (26).

The latest victim was from Bongaigaon and his name was yet to be ascertained.
