Krishna has agreed to send Mani as emissary: Parimala Nagappa

Sadananda R in Kamagere

Parimala Nagappa, wife of the abducted former Karnataka minister, H Nagappa, on Monday claimed that Chief Minister S M Krishna has agreed to send Kolathur Mani as an emissary to forest brigand Veerappan.

Speaking to rediff.com, she said the chief minister had called her up from Kengari on the way to Krishna Raja Sagar -- as part of his padayatra on the Cauvery issue -- and promised to 'arrange for Mani's release in another three days'.

"I requested the chief minister to save my husband's life. He said not to worry and also promised that Mani will be sent, along with Ponnachi Mahadevaswamy alias Ponnachi Gundu, as an emissary immediately," she said.

Speaking about the contents of the third cassette sent by the brigand, she said Veerappan had threatened to kill Nagappa if Mani was not sent to him as an emissary within eight days. "I have killed hundred and fifty people. To kill one more is nothing to me," she quoted the brigand as saying.

She said her husband, in the cassette, spoke about his throat pain, and lack of proper food and clothing. "Please take all the steps you had taken during Rajakumar's release. I am tired. Please take me out of this forest without further delay by fulfilling his demands," she quoted him as saying.

Though the state Law Minister D B Chandre Gowda said the government has to look into the legal consequences of Mani's release on bail, Parimala Nagappa claimed the state Home Minister Mallikarjun Kharge had promised her son and son-in-law all necessary measures to release Mani.

In a related development, the Janata Dal-United, Nagappa's party, has decided to organise protest rallies against the government over its continued apathy in solving the abduction crisis.
