Karnataka parties back Krishna on Cauvery issue

An all-party meeting in Bangalore on Saturday endorsed the Karnataka government's decision against releasing Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.

The Supreme Court had on Friday asked Karnataka to release 9,000 cusecs of water every day as per the directive of the Cauvery River Authority.

State Law Minister Chandre Gowda said after the meeting that the parties had urged Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to convene a CRA meeting for reversing the apex court order.

"Since the prime minister is scheduled to leave for Denmark on October 7, Chief Minister S M Krishna is faxing a letter to him conveying the all-party meeting's plea to convene the CRA meeting on Sunday [October 6]," Gowda stated.

The parties also appealed to farmers of Karnataka to call off their agitation.
