Swaminarayan probe making
'gradual progress'

The investigation into the terrorist attack on the Swaminarayan temple in Gandhinagar was making gradual progress even as the police on Tuesday interrogated Hira Solanki, brother of Gujarat Minister of State for Fisheries Purushottam Solanki, police said.

The investigation team set up Chief Minister Narendra Modi is headed by DGP K Chakravarthi.

Hira, a BJP MLA in the dissolved assembly, was near the Akshardham complex when the terrorists struck.

"During his two-hour long interrogation, Hira said that on hearing gunshots, he rushed into the Akshardham complex through Gate No 6 and opened fire on the terrorists with his licensed .9mm pistol," police sources said.

The investigators would be recording more statements, including that of the police personnel and SRP commandos 'who were among the first to reach the spot', the sources added.

The interrogation of the owner of the car that brought the terrorists to the temple, Mansukh Acharya, and its driver, Raju Thakore, was still on, they said.

A dry fruit seller, picked up from near Kalupur area outside the main Ahmedabad railway station, has been set free, they added.
