Naxalites kill eight cops in Jharkhand

Eight policemen, including a sub-inspector, were killed and another seriously injured as the banned People's War blew up a police jeep by triggering a landmine in Jharkhand's Latehar district on Wednesday.

Police sources said the naxalites detonated the landmine near Lamarnaka, about 16km from the Betla National Park on the Daltonganj-Mahuadand Road, in the district.

Sub-Inspector Mohasin Khan, four policemen of the Jharkhand Armed Police, two havildars and the driver of the jeep were killed on the spot.

The injured sub-inspector is being treated at the Sadar Hospital in Daltonganj.
