Two shot dead outside Uttaranchal minister's house

Unidentified gunmen shot dead two persons outside the house of Uttaranchal Health Minister Tilak Raj Behad in Dehradun on Thursday night, the police said on Friday.

Behad was taking a stroll in front of his house in Yamuna colony when the shootout occurred, police said, adding he was not hurt.

The dead persons were identified as Rajendra Singh alias Bhura and Abhay Kumar alias Happy. Police believe the shootout to be a case of inter-gang rivalry.

A hunt was launched to nab the attackers and several persons were picked up for interrogation, Superintendent of Police G S Martolia said.

Police sources said Behad was also questioned, as he was the only witness to the crime.

The incident came less than 24 hours of an attack on a police post in nearby Ballupur area in which two policemen were injured.
