Centre to ask TN, Karnataka to form plan for Nagappa's release

The Centre would ask the governments of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to prepare a joint action plan for the safe release of former state minister H Nagappa and urge the chief ministers of the two states to meet and sort out the problem, Union Urban Development Minister Ananth Kumar said on Wednesday.

Kumar, who accompanied the family members of Nagappa when they met Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani, said there had been 'no official dialogue' between the two state governments so far, since Nagappa was abducted 79 days ago by forest brigand Veerappan.

Kumar quoted Advani as saying that he would 'vigorously pursue' the matter with the two chief ministers for working out a joint action plan on steps to be taken for the safe release of the former Karnataka minister.

Stating that the problem was two fold -- release of Nagappa and arrest of Veerappan -- Kumar said Advani assured the Karnataka leader's family members that he would also take up the issue with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Nagappa's wife, Parimala, son Preetam, daughter Pawan and son-in-law Kiran apprised the deputy prime minister of the trauma they were undergoing for almost three months and complained about the 'lack of initiative' by any of the state governments for securing the release.
