Pakistani Navy to acquire Chinese battleships

To gain credible combat power, Pakistan is talking to China for acquiring F-22 frigates. The country has also finalised contracts to build guided missile boats, the navy's chief, Admiral Shahid Karimullah, said.

Very soon these ships will be flying with Pakistani flags, he told a meeting of naval officers on Tuesday, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported.

Adm Karimullah did not, however, disclose the number of ships being acquired. Nor did he say if the ships were being acquired on lease.

The acquisition of these missile boats and ships will enhance the strike capacity of Pakistan's navy manifold, he said. "We are also pursuing a number of upgradation and modernisation programmes for our battleships, both by utilising our local expertise and through foreign assistance," he said.
