Pakistani shelling kills army jawan, injures two

An army jawan was killed and two injured in Pakistani shelling along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir since Tuesday, defence officials in Jammu said.

One of the shells exploded near the entrance of a forward bunker around 1245 IST on Wednesday in Jhangar sector of Rajouri district.

Three jawans were injured, of which one succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital. Causalities or damages on the other side could not be ascertained, sources said.

Mortar fire was reported in sub-sector west of Siachen Glacier, while both sides exchanged artillery fire in Kargil and Drass sectors. Heavy calibre fire was reported in Batalick and Yaldor sectors in Ladakh region, and in Kasoori and Richmar areas of Kupwara district in Kashmir valley.

Mendhar area of Poonch district and Akhnoor and Arnia sectors of Jammu district also witnessed small arms firing.
