Pro-Badal SGPC members angry with officials, police

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandhak Committee members owing allegiance to former Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Tuesday exchanged heated arguments with the police and district administration officials over the erection of numerous barricades on the way to the Golden Temple from the SGPC complex.

All the pro-Badal SGPC members were staying in the complex.

While the members were of the opinion that the barricades should be removed so that they can pay obeisance in the sanctum sanctorum without hindrances, the police maintained that barricades were erected to check any untoward incident.

Senior Superintendent of Police Narinderpal Singh, who reached the SGPC complex early in the morning to monitor the security arrangements, said a heavy security cover has been thrown around the complex to check the infiltration of supporters of SGPC members from the Golden Temple side.
