No plan to scrap all MiGs, says IAF chief

The Indian Air Force has no plans to pull out all variants of the MiG series of aircraft, Air Chief Marshal S Krishnaswamy said on Tuesday.

Only the MiG-21FL aircraft that have finished their technical life will be phased out, he told reporters.

"We have no plan of withdrawing all the variants of MiG. The machines which have finished their engine hours will be pulled out this year," he said.

He told reporters that some of the aircraft that were inducted in the 1960s are obsolete.

The IAF chief was in Thiruvananthapuram for the two-day station commanders' conference at the Southern Air Command. "MiG has different variants. The MiG-21M and MiG-21B will remain with the force," he said.
