Police did not enter Darbar Sahab: Amarinder

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Monday said the police did not enter the Darbar Sahab in the Golden Temple complex at Amritsar on Sunday, but had only gone to the guesthouse.

Addressing a press conference in Chandigarh, Singh denied reports in a section of the media that police had entered the Darbar Sahab.

The government is duty bound to maintain peace, law and order in the wake of 'disturbing and perturbing' reports of threats and counter-threats from different factions, he added.

Singh said, "We have made foolproof arrangements to ensure a peaceful poll of the SGPC Executive Committee. About 1,200 miscreants of different factions have been taken into preventive custody."

He said that Union ministers, including Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, coming to Amritsar for the SGPC poll, would be treated as guest of the state.

Shiromani Akali Dal President Parkash Singh Badal will not be allowed to take his national security guards beyond the Circuit House, he said, adding the voters of all the factions will be allowed to proceed towards the election venue.
