The Bihar police will conduct a survey to find out the public image of the force.
Director General of Police R R Prasad said the survey would help in accountability of the police station in-charge and pressurise them to work towards decreasing the crime rate.
The force will conduct the survey and will not be handing it to a private agency.
Prasad has issued directives to all deputy inspector generals to conduct this survey soon.
The superintendent of police of all 37 districts in state too have been asked to immediately purchase envelopes for getting the people's opinion.
Some questions in the survey that will be asked; who should be held responsible for the increase in crime, suggestions to improve the image of the force, and to name five notorious criminals operating in their respective area.
The police will provide the questionnaires attached with the envelopes signed by the DIGs among the people belonging to different sections of the society.
The SPs will maintain a record of the envelops with the help of serial numbers printed on them and the DIGs will scrutinise the letters after receiving them.
Last month the DGP Prasad surprised everyone by announcing that the police will lodge FIRs over the phone.
