Al Qaida, ISI activities on the rise in Bangladesh: Advani

K G Suresh in Bhiwani, Haryana

Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani on Thursday voiced serious concern over the growing activities of the Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence and the Al Qaida in Bangladesh.

Inaugurating the 51st All India Police Games, he asked the international community to treat the Pakistani intelligence agency at par with terrorist outfits like the Al Qaida.

Describing Dhaka's support to militants as 'covert', the deputy prime minister said, "All insurgent groups of the northeast are getting refuge there."

"This will cost them dear," he said. "Irrespective of foreign policy compulsions, one should not support terrorism anywhere in the world. There should be no room for leniency towards terrorists."

Advani said Dhaka has been told about the activities of the various insurgent groups, including the Al Qaida.

He alleged that terrorists based in Bhutan carried out the recent massacre in Assam, adding that country was not taking enough action against the terrorists.
