Six held in connection with Lone murder

In a major breakthrough in the investigation into the assassination of Hurriyat leader Abdul Ghani Lone, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested six persons, Star News reported on Monday.

Quoting police sources in Srinagar, the TV network reported that the six were sympathisers of various terrorist groups, particularly the Hizbul Mujahideen, Lashkar-e-Tayiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad.

Their identity was, however, not revealed, the channel said.

Police sources quoted by the channel said the assassination might have been a joint operation by the different terrorist groups.

Lone was shot dead by two unidentified gunmen in Srinagar's Idgah ground on May 21 at a public meeting organised to commemorate the 12th death anniversary of former Mirwaiz of Kashmir Moulvi Mohammad Farooq, father of senior Hurriyat leader Umer Farooq.
