Cong leaders in Gujarat to organise 'sadhu sammelan'

In an apparent move to counter the BJP's propaganda in Gujarat that it alone represented the Hindus, some Congress leaders plan to organise a 'sadhu sammelan' (meeting of sadhus), which will be attended among others by the shankaracharya of Dwarka, in Gandhinagar in June.

Congress' Gujarat unit president Amarsinh Chaudhary told reporters that the event would be convened by the Shaktisanatan Seva Trust of which he is a vice-president.

Apart from calling the bluff of the BJP and the sangh parivar that they were the sole representatives of Hindus, the event would enable people and the sadhus to express their 'disenchantment' with the BJP.

Chaudhary, who was in Delhi to participate in the AICC session, said the Congress was ready to face assembly elections in the state and was confident of emerging victorious despite the BJP's attempts to polarise the voters during the post-Godhra violence.

Among other things, the Congress hopes to impress on the people that the BJP does not know how to rule, he said.
