Major power failure in Maharashtra

Large parts of Maharashtra and Mumbai were without electric power since early Thursday morning due to a major fault in transmission and generation systems.

The Chandarpur-Padaghe power transmission line tripped at 0630 hrs and brought several power generation centres to a grinding halt.

Two hours later, another 400 KV line between Hasod and Indore tripped, affecting power supply in Bhusawal.

This affected the Koradi thermal power generation unit disrupting power supply in Nasik region.

Areas of capital Mumbai that are served by BSES were also affected by the power failure. However, areas serviced by Tata Power Company were not affected.

Local trains in Mumbai were, however, running normal schedules.
