Six Pakistani soldiers were killed and eight to ten enemy bunkers destroyed in retaliatory firing and shelling by Indian troops as heavy exchange of fire continued in Poonch and Rajouri sectors of Jammu and Kashmir, a defence spokesman said.
"Pakistani troops continued targeting our forward posts and some civilian areas with heavy firing and mortar shelling forcing our troops to give adequate response," Lt. Colonel H S Oberoi said.
In retaliatory action about six Pakistani soldiers were killed and about eight to ten of their bunkers were damaged or destroyed on Sunday afternoon, he said.
"The exchange of shelling and firing was high till early Monday morning", he said.
Some houses and two shops were damaged and two persons were injured in Palanwala area, official sources said.
Reports from Poonch district said exchange of firing and shelling continued in Khari-Karmara and its adjoining areas till 0400 hours on Monday.
A Border Security Force spokesman said that mortar shelling took place along the International Border at Jabowal in R S Pura sector and Manguchak in Samba sector.
