Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

At least two persons were killed and 17 injured when an improvised explosive device exploded in the civil secretariat area in central Srinagar on Friday.

One person was killed on the spot while the other, identified as Abdul Salam, succumbed to injuries while being shifted to the Soura Medical Institute.

The blast triggered tension in the area and senior police and paramilitary officers rushed to the spot.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the blast.
